Carp fishing pellets are perhaps the most versatile bait to have in your tackle box. Because they are designed to break down at different speeds, they provide a constant stream of attraction without overfeeding the fish. A popular way to use them is by creating a "carpet" of feed; by mixing different sizes, such as a blend of 2mm, 4mm, and 6mm, you ensure that some dissolve almost instantly to cloud the water while others remain whole to keep the carp searching the lakebed.

Many successful anglers also prefer to "scald" their pellets by adding a small amount of boiling water, which softens the outer layer and creates a paste-like coating that leaks attraction the moment it hits the lakebed. If you are fishing over silt, try soaking your carp fishing pellets in a matching liquid re-hydrator; this ensures the pellet absorbs the attractant rather than the smell of the organic debris on the bottom.

Presentation and PVA Bags

If you want to take your presentation a step further, consider the "match the hatch" approach. You can use a larger pellet on the hair rig itself, surrounded by smaller micro-pellets. This creates a uniform look that makes even the wariest carp less suspicious of your hookbait. For those fishing in deeper water or at long range, dampening your pellets slightly allows them to be compressed into a Method feeder or squeezed into a firm ball, ensuring your bait reaches the bottom exactly where you intended.

To create a concentrated pile of attraction directly around your hookbait, these pellets can be used with PVA bags. Filling a solid bag with a handful of carp fishing pellets and a splash of PVA-friendly oil creates a compact, high-attraction parcel that protects your hook point from weed and debris, eliminating tangles and ensuring your rig is presented perfectly every time. This setup is perfect for "casting at bubbles" or targeting fish in tight spots where a heavy bed of bait might be too intrusive, as the melting bag releases a small, high-attraction pile of food that keeps the carp rooting around your hook for longer.
